C O M M O N O R D E R These Criminal Original Petitions have been filed seeking to quash the FIRs in Crime No.166 of 2025, registered against the petitioner in Crl.O.P.(MD) No.17755 of 2025, for the offences punishable under Sections 296(b), 115(2) and 351(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023; and in Crime No.165 of 2025, registered against the petitioners in Crl.O.P.(MD) No.17901 of 2025, for the offences punishable under Sections 296(b) and 115(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023 and Section 4 of the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act, 2002. Both FIRs pertain to the same occurrence.

2. The allegation in the FIRs is that, on account of a previous dispute, the petitioners in both Crl.O.Ps. attacked each other, abused each other, and thereby committed the aforesaid offences.

3. The parties have now entered into a compromise and decided to give a quietus to the entire dispute. The parties have filed joint compromise memos both dated 16th October 2025. The scanned copy of the compromise memos read as follows:

The petitioner in Crl.O.P.(MD) No.17755 of 2025, namely, Seemaraja [Aadhaar No.3401 8337 8857], the petitioners in Crl.O.P.(MD) No.17901 of 2025, namely, (1) Praveen Kumar [Aadhaar No.3027 0474 4996], (2) Prakash [Aadhaar No.4456 1067 9924] and (3) Pasumpon [Aadhaar No.5420 8663 2554] and the second respondent/defacto complainant in Crl.O.P.(MD) No.17901 of 2025, namely, Mariammal [Aadhaar No.7707 0850 5171] are present before this Court in person. The second respondent/defacto complainant in Crl.O.P.(MD) No.17755 of 2025 is the first petitioner in Crl.O.P.(MD) No.17901 of 2025. The parties are identified by M/s.S.Kaleeswari, Sub Inspector of Police, Thirunagar Police Station. All the parties confirmed the compromise arrived at between them.

Considering the nature of the offences and also considering the relationship between the parties, this Court is of the view that no useful purpose would be served by keeping the First Information Reports (FIRs) pending investigation. Accordingly, the impugned First Information Reports (FIRs) in Crime No.165 of 2025 and Crime No.166 of 2025, on the file of first respondent police, are quashed. The petitioner in Crl.O.P. (MD) No.17755 of 2025 shall pay a sum of Rs.5,000/- and the petitioners in Crl.O.P.(MD) No.17901 of 2025 shall pay a sum of Rs.5,000/- as costs to the Mediation and Conciliation Centre attached to the Madurai Bench of Madras High Court forthwith and file a photocopy of the receipt along with a memo reporting compliance in the Registry.
