An order dated 01.07.2025 rejecting the petitioner's request for patta is challenged in this Writ Petition.

2. Learned Special Government Pleader accepts notice on behalf of respondents. He submits that a statutory appeal is provided under the Tamil Nadu Patta Pass Book Act, 1983.

3. As submitted by learned Special Government Pleader, a statutory appeal before the jurisdictional Revenue Divisional Officer is prescribed in the statute. The impugned order is dated 01.07.2025 and the limitation prescribed is 30 days. Nonetheless, considering the fact that the petitioner has approached this Court, it is just and appropriate that the petitioner's appeal, if filed, be considered and disposed of on merits. 2/4

4. Accordingly, this Writ Petition is disposed of by granting leave to the petitioner to assail the impugned order by way of appeal before the Revenue Divisional Officer. If such appeal is lodged within 15 days from the date of receipt of a copy of this order, the second respondent is directed to receive and dispose of the same on merits within a reasonable period without going into the question of limitation.
