ORDER
This Criminal Original Petition has been filed seeking to quash the final report in S.C.No.414 of 2024 filed for the offences under Section 417, 376, 294(b) and 506(1) of IPC.
2. The allegation in the final report is that on the promise of marriage, the petitioner enticed the defacto complainant and had sexual intercourse and had also received cash to the tune of Rs.5,00,000/- and thus committed the aforesaid offences.
3. When the matter came up for admission, this Court had passed the following order:
"8. The learned Additional Public Prosecutor, on instructions, would submit that the defacto complainant has applied for compensation of Rs.1.75 Lakhs and she is willing to resolve the issue provided she receives compensation.
9. Upon considering the facts and circumstances of the case, this Court is of the opinion that it is a fit case to be referred for mediation.
10. Let both parties shall appear before the Mediation and Conciliation Centre attached to this Bench on 21.11.2024.
11. Registry to list this matter before this Court along with mediation report."

4. The parties therefore had appeared before the Mediation Centre attached to this Court. During the mediation, the parties arrived at a settlement and entered into a settlement agreement dated 27.01.2025. The scanned copy of the said settlement agreement reads as follows: 3/8

The petitioner, namely, S.Antonyraj (Aadhaar No.4117 9481 5297) and the defacto complainant, namely, M.Mohanapriya (Aadhaar No.3272 3171 0298) are present before this Court in person and they are identified by M/s.S.Shyamaladevi, Special Sub Inspector of Police, All Women Police Station, South, Madurai City. The defacto complainant confirms that the parties have arrived at a settlement and states that she has no objection in quashing the impugned proceedings.
6. In view of the aforesaid facts and considering the nature of relationship between the parties and the compromise arrived at between them, this Court is of the view that no useful purpose would be served in keeping the impugned proceedings pending. Accordingly, the impugned final report in S.C.No.414 of 2024 on the file of the District and Sessions Court (Mahila), Madurai is quashed and the Criminal Original Petition is allowed.
