PRAYER: Writ Petition is filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India, praying for issuance of a writ of Certiorarified Mandamus, to call for the records relating to the impugned order in Na.Ka. No.A9/5888/2023 signed dated 15.09.2023 issued by the 2nd respondent and quash the same and consequently directing the respondents 1 to 3 to process the petitioner's application of change of name from Jeyalakshmi to Helen within stipulated time frame fixed by this Court. 1/4

ORDER

Challenging the order of rejection passed by the second respondent in effecting name change in the gazette, the present writ petition has been filed.

2.It is the case of the petitioner that the petitioner's name is Jeyalakshmi. Now, she wants to change her name as 'Helen'. In this regard, the petitioner has given an application. Considering the same, the second respondent has passed an order stating that the Tamil application of the petitioner has been filled with sanskrit letters. Challenging the same, the petitioner has filed this writ petition. 3.The learned Additional Government Pleader for the respondents would submit that the petitioner can change her name by filling the English application available in Perfoma-1. If the same has been made, the petitioner's name change will be effected in public gazette. 2/4

4.In view of the above said submission, the petitioner is directed to submit the application available in English, which is specifically meant for this, before the second respondent. On presenting such application, the second respondent shall effect the name change as per rules immediately.

5.With the above direction, this writ petition stands disposed of. No costs.
