Respondent Prayer: Writ Petition is filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India, to issue a Writ of Mandamus directing the respondent to effect name change on the petitioner service register maintained by the respondent in connection with his service as crane operator at Tuticorin Port Trust as C.Jones from C.Dharama Sahaya James forthwith, particularly within the time stipulation as prescribed by this Court.

O R D E R

This writ petition has been filed for a direction to the respondent to effect name change on the petitioner's service register maintained by the respondent.

2. The learned counsel appearing for the petitioner would submit that the petitioner's original name is C.Dharma Sahaya James, S/o. Colambus and he wanted to change his name as C.Jones. In order to change his name, the petitioner has made a representation to the respondent, on 20.10.2016. But, till date no order was passed. Hence, this Court may issue a direction to the respondent to dispose of the representation of the petitioner, dated 20.10.2016, on merits and in accordance with law, within a specified period.

3. The learned Standing Counsel appearing for the respondent has no serious objection for such an order being passed by this Court.

Considering the limited request made by the learned counsel for the petitioner, this Court, without going into the merits of the matter, directs the respondent to consider the petitioners' representation, dated 20.10.2016 and pass orders, on merits and in accordance with law, within a period of twelve weeks from the date of receipt of a copy of this order. Further, the petitioner is directed to enclose the copy of the representation along with the order passed in this writ petition, to enable the respondent to pass orders.

5. With the above directions, this Writ Petition is disposed of. No costs. Consequently, the connected Miscellaneous Petition is closed.
