O R D E R

This Writ Petition is filed seeking for a direction to the respondents 1 and 2 Police to grant permission and protection for conducting Goat offering festival in Arulmighukaruppan Temple situated at Vellalaviduthi Vilage, Kallakottai, Kantharvakottai, Pudukkottai District on 15.09.2023, basing on the representation given by the petitioner on 01.09.2023.

It is submitted by the learned counsel appearing for the petitioner that the petitioner and the other villagers have been conducting the festival every year by offering goat sacrifice to the family God (Kuladeivam). It is further submitted that a peace committee meeting was conducted on 12.08.2023 at the office of the first respondent, wherein, both the fractions of the village have agreed to conduct festival on 2/5

13.08.2023. However, on that date, the other fraction have conducted the festival deliberately avoiding the people belonging to the petitioner's fraction. It is submitted that the petitioner's fraction have decided to conduct the festival on 15.09.2023 and filed an application for grant of permission. However, the same has not been granted. The petitioner has enclosed a copy of the proceedings of the peace committee meeting conducted on 12.08.2023. Thereby, he sought for suitable directions.

The learned Government Advocate (criminal side) appearing for the respondents Police, after getting instructions from one P.Palpandi, the Deputy Tahsildar, Taluk Office, Kantharvakottai, who is present before this Court, submits that in the peace committee meeting, the people belonging to both the fractions had agreed to conduct the festival jointly on 13.08.2023. However, one of the fractions have conducted the festival on 13.08.2023 by ignoring the people belonging to the petitioner's fraction.

4. Considering the circumstances, the respondents Police are directed to grant permission as sought for by the petitioner and take 3/5

appropriate measures to see that there is no untoward incident happened in the village.

5. Accordingly, this Writ Petition is disposed of. There shall be no order as to costs.
