ORDER

(Order of the Court was made by PUSHPA SATHYANARAYANA, J.) The prayer in this writ petition is for issuance of a Writ of Mandamus, directing the respondents to notify and to permit the petitioner and the villagers belongs to Hindu Religious people to conduct Jallikattu either on 15.01.2022 or 16.01.2022 at West Street, Navalur Kuttapattu Village, Srirangam Taluk, Trichy District, before Vinayagar Temple and give sufficient police protection in accordance with law, on the basis of the petitioner's representation dated 20.10.2021. 2.

The petitioner would state that he is a Village Pattayatharar of the above village and Navalur Kuttapattu Jallikattu Vizha Committee Member. He would state that there was Jallikattu Vizha celebrated every year during Pongal festival in front of Adaikala Matha Church situated in the said village and the villagers belonged to different caste, community and religion used to take part in the same. While so, in 2019, difference of opinion arose between both Hindu and Christian religious people in the village, which resulted in filing of writ petitions by either parties, but since no consensus was arrived at between both religious people, the Jallikattu scheduled to be held in 2019 was cancelled. Now, the petitioner has made a representation dated 20.10.2021, duly signed by the villagers, to the respondents seeking permission and police protection for conducting Jallikattu either on 15.01.2022 or 16.01.2022 before Vinayagar Temple at West Street, Navalur Kuttapattu Village, Srirangam Taluk, Trichy District. Since no order has been passed thereon, he has filed this writ petition.

When the writ petition is taken up for hearing, the learned counsel for the petitioner would state that it is suffice if a direction is issued to the respondents to consider the petitioner's representation dated 20.10.2021 and pass orders within a time frame.

In view of the limited relief sought for, without going into the merits of the case, we direct the 3rd respondent, the District Collector, Trichy District, to consider the petitioner's representation dated 20.10.2021 and pass appropriate orders in accordance with law on or before 12.01.2022.

With the above direction, the Writ Petition is disposed of. No costs.
