P RAYER : Writ Petition filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India, to issue a Writ of Mandamus, directing the respondents to reclassify the land and consequently issue patta in the name of the petitioner in respect of the land in S.No.136/2 situated in Uranganpatti Village, Melur Taluk, Madurai District by considering the representation given by the petitioner dated 03.04.2023 and 20.09.2023. ORDER

The petitioner seeks issuance of Writ of Mandamus to direct the second respondents to reclassify the land and consequently issue patta in the name of the petitioner in respect of land in S.No.136/2 situated at Uranganpatti Village, Melur Taluk, Madurai District.

2. Considering the limited scope of the prayer sought for in the writ petitioner, by consent of both parties, the Writ Petition is taken up for final disposal.

3. The specific case of the petitioner that though originally the lands were acquired for providing lands to Adi Dravidar people, subsequently the Principal Bench of this Court quashed the entire acquisition proceedings and thereafter no further steps were taken by the State to acquire the lands afresh.

4. However, the grievance of the petitioner is that the classification of the land as Adi Dravidar has not been reclassified, despite the acquisition proceedings being quashed. The petitioner made applications to the respondents on 03.04.2023 and 20.09.2023. The said applications have not been acted upon and no orders have been passed.

5. Considering the above, there shall be a direction to the second respondent, after receiving a report from the sixth respondent and taking into consideration the fact that the acquisition proceedings have been quashed, shall consider the petitioner's applications dated 03.04.2023 and 20.09.2023 and pass orders on merits and in accordance with law within a period of eight weeks from the date of receipt of a copy of this order. 3/6

6. With the above said observations, this writ petition is disposed of. No costs.
