ORDER
The petitioner has filed this petition seeking a direction to the second respondent to provide adequate Police protection for the life and limb of the petitioner by considering the petitioner's representation, dated 17.08.2025.
2. According to the learned counsel for the petitioner, the petitioner is a resident of Kambikudi Village, where there are about 75 Pangali families. In the said village, there is a temple belonging to all the families, namely Arulmigu Sri Karkuvel Ayyanar Thirukovil. One Mr. Ravi is presently the Poojari of the said temple; and that he has not been performing the poojas in the proper manner and in a way acceptable to the 75 Pangali families. Consequently, the petitioner convened a meeting of all the 75 pangali families, scheduled to be held on 07.09.2025. Since a large number of persons are expected to participate in the said meeting, the petitioner seeks Police protection to ensure its peaceful conduct.
3. The learned counsel for the petitioner would further submit that the petitioner and other villagers are not particularly aggrieved by the continuance of the said Ravi as Poojari. However, their grievance is that he has not been performing the daily poojas as required by the villagers. Therefore, pursuant to 2/5
the observation made by this Court in W.P.(MD) No.5872 of 2024, dated 11.07.2025, the petitioner has convened a meeting of the villagers.

The learned Additional Public Prosecutor, on instructions from the third respondent Police, would submit that the meeting convened by the petitioner has been objected to by several families in the said village; and that any conduct of the meeting would lead to law and order problems and no such protection can be granted as prayed for.
5. Heard the learned counsel for the petitioner and the learned Additional Public Prosecutor.
6. The present petition has been filed for providing adequate police protection for conducting the meeting. The respondent Police are not obliged to grant protection to any kind of meetings convened by any person. Admittedly, certain families in the said village have objected to the proposed meeting. If the petitioner or other villagers have any grievance against the said Ravi, who is presently the Poojari or have dispute with other villages, it is always open to them to approach the competent Civil Court and seek appropriate remedy in accordance with law. The Police cannot interfere in such disputes and hence a 3/5
direction as sought for cannot be issued.
