ORDER
This Writ petition has been filed for a direction to the first respondent to dispose the petitioner's Mercy petition dated 18.07.2019, within a stipulated time to be fixed by this Court. 2.Mr.C.Ramar, learned Additional Government Pleader takes notice on behalf of the respondents. By consent of parties, this Writ Petition is taken up for final disposal at the stage of admission itself.
3.The petitioner while working as Grade-I Police Constable at Madurai, received a charge memo from the third respondent alleging certain delinquencies, which are said to have been committed by the petitioner during his tenure at Silaiman Police Station in Madurai. The petitioner gave a detailed explanation to the charge memo. However, the third respondent, vide his proceedings dated 17.09.2010, awarded a punishment of reduction in time scale of pay by three stages for three years, with cumulative effect. W.P.(MD)No.25424 of 2019 petitioner filed an appeal before the second respondent for setting aside the punishment order passed by the third respondent. After perusing the appeal, the second respondent modified the above punishment. Thereafter, the petitioner preferred a Mercy Petition, dated 18.07.2019, before the first respondent. But, the first respondent has not passed any order on the Mercy Petition so far. Hence, the petitioner has come up with the present Writ petition. 4.The learned counsel appearing for the petitioner submitted that it would suffice, if a direction is issued to the respondents to dispose the Mercy Petition of the petitioner, dated 18.07.2019, on merits.
5.Considering the nature of relief sought for by the petitioner, without going into the merits of the case, the respondents are directed to dispose the Mercy Petition, dated 18.07.2019 and pass orders on merits and in accordance with law, within a period of twelve weeks from the date of receipt of a copy of this order.
6.With the above direction, this Writ Petition stands disposed of. No costs.
