O R D E R

The writ petition has been filed seeking a direction to the first respondent to issue a passport to the petitioner pursuant to his application dated 21.12.2023 bearing file Number MD2076087760123 within a time frame as may be stipulated by this Court.

2. Heard the arguments of Mr.P.Sathish Kumar, learned counsel for the petitioner, Mr.S.Selvakrishnan, learned Central Government Standing Counsel, who takes notice for the first respondent and Mr.S.Prakash, learned Government Advocate (Crl.side), who takes notice for the second respondent. By consent of both sides, the writ petition is taken up for final disposal at the admission stage itself.

3. It is informed that the petitioner is an accused in CC.No.698 of 2020 on the file of the learned Judicial Magistrate, Sankarankovil. On 08.01.2024, the Regional Passport Officer has issued a letter asking the petitioner to clarify regarding the said criminal proceedings and he was also put on notice that in case

of non-satisfactory response and non-appearance within the specified period, he would be denied passport.

4. Admittedly, the criminal case has not been disposed of. In fact, the petitioner, who is the accused, did not enter appearance in the said case. In view of the same, the petitioner shall make request regarding renewal of his passport, after the disposal of the said criminal case. On such request is being made, the respondent shall consider the same, if there are no other adverse remarks against the petitioner.

5. With the above direction, this writ petition is disposed of. No costs. 03.09.2025 NCC : Yes/No Index : Yes/No Rmk
