ORDER

This writ petition has been filed seeking a direction to the first respondent to update the petitioner's address, rectify the petitioner's name as per the available records, and thereafter reissue/renew the passport bearing No. N-7514854 to the petitioner by processing his application in File No. MD1077384872325, based on his explanation/representation dated 06.03.2025, within a time limit to be stipulated by this Court.

2. Heard the learned counsel for the petitioner, the learned Standing Counsel appearing for the first respondent, and the learned Government Advocate (Crl. Side) appearing for the second respondent.

3. According to the petitioner, he applied for updating his address and for rectification of his name as Idhayachandran instead of Edhaya Chandran mentioned in his old passport No. N-7514854, and sought renewal and reissuance of the same. Thereafter, he made a representation to the first respondent on 06.03.2025. However, the same has not been considered. Hence, he has filed the present writ petition. 2/5

4. The learned Government Advocate (Crl. Side) appearing for the second respondent submitted that a criminal case is pending against the petitioner in Crime No.15 of 2024 on the file of the second respondent for the offences under Sections 419, 420, 465, 467, 468, 471, and 120-B IPC.

5. The learned Standing Counsel appearing for the first respondent submitted that the petitioner's representation will be considered in accordance with law.

6. It is seen that the petitioner has sought only correction of the spelling of his name. Therefore, without expressing any opinion on the merits of the matter, the first respondent is directed to consider the petitioner's representation dated 06.03.2025 and pass final orders on its own merits, within a period of one month from the date of receipt of a copy of this order, after affording a reasonable opportunity to the petitioner and after verifying the relevant records in this regard.
