Prayer : Writ Petition filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India, praying this Court to issue a Writ of Mandamus, directing the respondents to provide adequate police protection for the smooth conduct of Annual General Body Meeting of State Transport and Transport Corporation Retired Employees Welfare Association, (REWA) scheduled to be held on 23.09.2025 between 10.00 AM and 5.00 PM at Dindigul Naidu Mahajana Welfare Trust Thirumana Mandapam located at No.17/31, Race Course Road on the Naidu Mahal Round Road, Dindigul - 624 005.

ORDER

The petitioner has sought for police protection for conducting a General Body Meeting of the State Transport and Transport Corporation Retired Employees Welfare Association (REWA), scheduled to be held on 23.09.2025 between 10.00 AM and 5.00 PM at Dindigul Naidu Mahajana Welfare Trust Thirumana Mandapam located at No.17/31, Race Course Road on the Naidu Mahal Round Road, Dindigul - 624 005.

2. According to the petitioner, since more than 1000 members are likely to assemble for the meeting, it is desirable that the police are present so that no untoward incident takes place.

The learned Additional Public Prosecutor, on instructions, would submit that police protection would be granted on payment of cost as per the instructions issued by the Director General of Police in this regard; that the cost would be determined by the respondents; and that if the petitioner is agreeable for the same, the respondents would give police protection. 2/5

4. The petitioner has sought for police protection for a meeting of an organization. The respondents are not obliged to give police protection on mere asking. However, considering the fact that more than 1000 members are likely to assemble in the meeting, the respondents may consider grant of police protection by fixing appropriate cost that may be prescribed as per the Government Order that governs this issue.

5. With the above observations, this Writ Petition stands disposed of. There shall be no order as to costs.
