Heard both sides.

2. The petitioner seeks re-issuance of passport.

3. The application was not processed for the reason that the petitioner was involved in criminal cases.

4. When the matter was taken up for hearing, the learned Government Advocate made available the relevant details. The petitioner is a practising lawyer. He is also involved in political activities. Since the cases came to be registered against him on account of such activities, I am more than satisfied that he is not a flight risk. He is practising in Tirunelveli. Pendency of the cases need not come in the way. The first respondent is directed to reissue passport to the petitioner subject to fulfilment of the other usual formalities. This writ petition stands allowed. No costs.
