O R D E R

This writ petition has been filed to quash the impugned notification No.02/2025 published on 21.08.2025 for common recruitment for the posts of Grade II Police Constable, Grade.II Jail warder and firemen for the year 2025 as illegal and directing the respondent to issue the fresh notification or addendum for open category age cutoff date for 01.07.2024 and permit the petitioners to participate in the said selection process.

2.The claim of the petitioner is that no notification had been issued for recruitment to the post of Grade II Police Constable during the year 2024. If such a notification was issued, the petitioners would have been 2/5

entitled to participate in the said recruitment process. As the notification was not issued in the year 2024, they would not be able to participate. Therefore, the cut off date for the said notification should be fixed as 01.07.2024 and not 01.07.2025, as the persons like the petitioners would be put to disappropriate position as they cannot participate in the process.

3.The learned Additional Adovate Generals submits that as per Rule 14 of the Special Rules for the Tamil Nadu Police Subordinate Services, the cut off date with respect to age should be the first July of the year in which the notification had been issued. Therefore, he submits that the claim of the petitioner cannot be entertained. 4.I have considered the submissions made by the learned counsels on either sides and perused the materials on record. 5.Even though the claim of the petitioners is that no notification was issued in the year 2024 and the present notification was issued only in the year 2025, the said issue had already been decided by this Court in various writ petitions filed in the preceding years. that the cut off date would only be the first day of July of the year in which the notification is issued, the respondents cannot be called upon to alter the date to previous year or any other date. Therefore, this Court finds that the respondents are justifed in issuing the notification indicating the cut off date as 01.07.2025 in accordance with Rule 14 of the Special Rules for the Tamil Nadu Police Subordinate Services. 6.For the aforesaid reasons, the writ petition stands dismissed. There shall be no order as to costs. Consequently, the connected miscellaneous petitions are closed.
