O R D E R
This Criminal Original Petition has been filed seeking to quash the final report in C.C.No.562 of 2025, on the file of the learned Judicial Magistrate No.IV, Tirunelveli, filed against the petitioners for the offences punishable under Sections 498(A), 406, 294(b) & 506(1) of the Indian Penal Code, 1860.
2. The allegation in the final report is that the first petitioner is the husband of the second respondent/defacto complainant, and the second and third petitioners are the parents of the first petitioner; that there were matrimonial differences between the first petitioner and the second respondent/defacto complainant; that the first petitioner had harassed the second respondent/defacto complainant both mentally and physically; that the petitioners jointly harassed the second respondent/defacto complainant and abused her and her family members, and demanded additional dowry; and that even after the petitioner left the matrimonial home, the articles given by the parents of the second respondent/defacto complainant as sridhanam at the time of marriage have not been returned by the petitioners.

3. Admittedly, the first petitioner and the second respondent/defacto complainant are the husband and wife, and the second and third petitioners are the parents of the first petitioner. There was a matrimonial dispute between the first petitioner and the second respondent/defacto complainant. The parties have now entered into a compromise and decided to give a quietus to the entire dispute. The parties have filed a joint compromise memo dated 2nd September, 2025. 4. The petitioners, namely, (1) A.Senthil [Aadhaar No.2057 6846 0408], (2) N.Annamalai [Aadhaar No.5912 5258 0282] and (3) A.Subbulakshmi [Aadhaar No.9181 0421 2147], and the second respondent/defacto complainant, namely, J.Jeyabala [Aadhaar No.3652 5582 8046] are present before this Court in person. The parties are identified by M/s.S.Mary Anisha, Women Head Constable, Tirunelveli Town All Women Police Station, Tirunelveli City. All the parties confirmed the compromise arrived at between them.
5. In view of the same and considering the nature of the offences and the relationship between the parties, this Court is of the view that no useful purpose would be served by keeping the impugned final report pending trial. Accordingly, the impugned final report in C.C.No.562 of 2025, on the file of the learned Judicial Magistrate No.IV, Tirunelveli, is quashed. The petitioners shall pay a sum of Rs.5,000/- as costs to the Mediation and Conciliation Centre attached to the Madurai Bench of Madras High Court forthwith and file a photocopy of the receipt along with a memo reporting compliance in the Registry.
