O R D E R

This writ petition has been filed seeking the issuance of a writ of mandamus directing the first respondent to sanction the 'Family Freedom Fighter Pension' to the petitioner under the Swatantrata Sainik Samman Pension Scheme, 1980, as the widow of her deceased husband, Ramasamy, who was a freedom fighter. The petitioner also seeks a direction to respondents 3 and 4 to authorise the grant and disbursement of the pension from 21.08.1982, along with the admitted dearness allowance and interest till the date of realisation, and consequently directing the first respondent to pay the Freedom Fighter's Family Pension to her during her lifetime into her Savings Bank Account No. 10514902999, State Bank of India, Thirumangalam Branch, Madurai District, by considering her husband's application dated 21.08.1982 and her own application dated 07.12.2024.

2. Heard the learned counsel for the parties and perused the materials available on record.

3. The grievance of the petitioner is that although the benefits of the "Swatantrata Sainik Samman Pension Scheme" have been extended 4/8

to other eligible beneficiaries, the petitioner, being the widow of a freedom fighter, has been made to approach one authority after another at the age of 74 years. In this regard, she submitted a representation dated 07.12.2024 seeking sanction of the pension. Since the said representation has not been considered till date, the petitioner is constrained to file the present writ petition.

4. Learned counsel for the petitioner confines his prayer to a direction for disposal of the petitioner's representation dated 07.12.2024 in accordance with law.

5. Considering the facts and circumstances of the case and the age of the petitioner, this Court directs the first respondent to consider the representation of the petitioner on merits and in accordance with law, within a period of eight weeks from the date of receipt of a copy of this order. No costs.
