The present writ petition has been filed seeking a mandamus directing the respondent to return the petitioner's passport bearing No. V9542293 based on his representation dated 12.09.2025. 1/5

When the matter was taken up for hearing, the learned counsel appearing for the respondent submitted that the petitioner was holding two parallel passports and, therefore, an enquiry was required to be conducted. Pursuant to the directions of this Court, the petitioner appeared for enquiry, and an order came to be passed on 17.02.2026. The same is extracted hereunder:
" Whereas, the petitioner appeared on 16.02.2026 in this office as per order of Hon'ble Court and he was was enquired about the passport application submitted at RPO-Trichy with different credentials. The petitioner agreed that he obtained two series of parallel passport. The petitioner claims that his real name is Malairaj but the petitioner obtained initial passport in the year 1993 itself in the name of Malaiyandi by producing Voter's ID Card and Nativity Certificate issued by Tahsildar, Thiruvadanai, has also travelled abroad on the strength of the said passport.
Whereas, as per petitioner's claim his original name is Malairaj, but he had obtained passport in the name of Malaiyandi also by submitting voter ID card and Nativity Certificate.

Hence, it is decided to verify the certificate submitted by him for genuineness. On receipt of reply, the matter will be taken up with Superintendent of Police, Ramanathapuram to initiate appropriate action under the provisions of Indian Passports Act, 1967 for having obtained parallel passports, with different credentials. After, outcome of Police action, restoring of further passport facilities will be rendered in accordance with provisions of Indian Passports Act, 1967."
3. In view of the above order, the respondent is directed to proceed in accordance with law, depending upon the report of the Superintendent of Police, Ramanathapuram, to be submitted in this regard.
4. With the above observations, this writ petition stands disposed of. No costs.
