PRAYER: Writ Petition filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India, praying this Court to issue a Writ of Certiorarified Mandamus, thereby call for the records of the 2nd respondent with regard to the rejection of the petitioner's candidature for the post of Office Assistant by his order dated 12.11.2025 and quash the same in consequence thereof direct to consider the petitioner as eligible for the post of Office Assistant and conduct the selection process in 1/5
accordance with law.

The petitioner has applied for the post of Office Assistant in Tamil Nadu Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department, pursuant to the notification, dated 28.08.2025. The petitioner has approached this Court that he has not been selected and his candidature was rejected by a proceedings, dated 12.11.2025. 2.The grievance of the petitioner is that the respondents are attempting to accommodate a person in the post of Office Assistant, who is the son of the driver of the District Collector. In order to accommodate that person, they have rejected this petitioner. The learned counsel further submits that though there is no rule for separate reservation for the persons, who have studied in Tamil 2/5
medium, the candidate has been given preference as he studied in the Tamil medium. The selection process has been done by applying the horizontal reservation without following the vertical reservation. 3.Today(05.01.2026), when this writ petition is taken up for hearing, the learned Additional Government Pleader appearing for the respondents submits that one S.Sridhar, S/o Selvasekaran, Kantharvakottai, Pudhukottai has been selected as an Office Assistant and appointed by a proceedings in Na.Ka.No.A1/2774/2025, dated 25.11.2025. According to him, he has joined the duty and now serving as Office Assistant at Kunrdandarkovil Panchayat Office. A copy of the proceedings, dated 25.11.2025 is also placed before this Court.
4.In view of the subsequent development that a candidate, namely, S.Sridhar from Pudhukottai has been selected as Office Assistant and at present he is working at Kunrdandarkovil Panchayat Office, this writ petition 3/5
is dismissed. However, liberty is granted to this petitioner to challenge the order of appointment, dated 25.11.2025, in the manner known to law, provided, if he is having any valid grounds.
