Mr. Pradhan, learned advocate appears on behalf of petitioner and submits, his client was duly issued gun licence and, therefore, in possession of a weapon. He was travelling by train to produce the licence, due to expire on 31st December, 2011, to apply for renewal. The document was stolen in transit on 1st July, 2010. He informed police, as well as the administration, regarding the loss. Ultimately, by letter dated 5th May, 2016 the Additional District Magistrate, Ganjam advised his client to reregister and renew the arms licence at appropriate authority of Sundergarh District, per rule 62 (3) (4) of Arms Rules, 1962 since, his client is presently residing in Rourkela. He submits, in event Court is not inclined to direct said authority to

// 2 // renew the licence then appropriate direction be made for his client to carry the gun from district Ganjam to district Sungargarh, his present place of residence, for thereafter applying as advised. 2.

Mr. Nanda, learned advocate, Additional Government Advocate appears on behalf of State. On query from Court he submits, appropriate direction be made.

Additional District Magistrate, Ganjam is directed to issue transit authorization in respect of the gun, under expired licence no.13/83 BTPS, with reasonable validity period, to enable petitioner to carry the gun from his erstwhile place of residence to his present place of residence and thereafter apply afresh as advised by said letter dated 5th May, 2016.
