This matter is taken up through hybrid mode.

By way of the Public Interest Litigation, the petitioner, who is a native of Betal village of Baliput Gram Panchayat under Puri Sadar Block in the district of Puri has approached this court for a direction to make necessary arrangement for supply of drinking water through pipe line to the said village.

It is submitted by Mr. Nayak, learned counsel for the petitioner that earlier an attempt was made for supply of drinking water to village- Betal through pipe line, but it failed. No step thereafter was taken by the authority for supply of drinking water to the village although the said facility has been made available to the nearby villages. In that regard, the Petitioner has made a representation to the Collector, Puri-Opposite Party No.2 on 23.7.2021 as at Annexure-3, but the said representation is still pending with the Collector, Puri-Opposite Party No.2 and no step has yet been taken for supply of drinking water to the said village. 4.
Mrs. Pattnaik, learned Additional Government Advocate for the State submits that she has no instruction in the matter. However, if the
// 2 // representation of the Petitioner under Annexure-3 is still pending with the Collector, Puri-Opposite Party No.2, a direction may be made for early disposal of the same in accordance with law.

Taking into consideration the submissions of learned counsel for the parties, this court without expressing any opinion on the merits of the case of the Petitioner, disposes of the writ petition with a direction that on production of certified copy of this order before the Collector, PuriOpposite Party No.2 within a period of two weeks hence, steps shall be taken for early disposal of the representation dated 23.7.2021 as at Annexure-3 as expeditiously as possible preferably within a period of eight weeks therefrom and result thereof shall be communicated to the Petitioner.
Urgent certified copy of this order be granted on proper application.
