1. This is a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) brought forth by an Organisation which is stated to be looking after the welfare of animals generally and old cattle in particular. The main concern expressed in this petition is about the conducting of a livestock market at Barikpur which is within the limits of the Soro Police Station in the Balasore district.

2. Since an advance copy of the petition was served on learned counsel for the State, he was able to obtain instructions from the Inspector-In Charge (IIC), Soro Police Station that the said Barikpur Cattle Market has now been stopped and is no longer held there. The said statement is taken on record.

3. If there any other grievances that the Petitioner has in relation to any specific instances of Violation of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Livestock Market Rules) 2017, it will be open to the

Petitioner to make a fresh representation to the concerned authorities and after following up on such representation, to seek appropriate remedies in accordance with law.
