Prayer in the instant petition filed under Articles 226/227 of the Constitution of India, is for issuance of directions to official respondents No.2 & 3, to provide protection of lives and liberty of the petitioners, who have married against the wishes of private respondent(s). 2.

Counsel for the petitioner states that petitioner No.1 is a widow and from her earlier marriage, she is blessed with a son namely; Sahildeep Singh. Petitioner No.2 - Chhota Singh, unmarried and thus, both of them have performed lawful marriage.

On the previous date of hearing this Court had granted opportunity to petitioner No.2 - Chhota Singh for depositing a sum of amount in the shape of FDR in the name of male child of petitioner No.1 - Ranjit Kaur. In response thereto, counsel for the petitioner informs that an amount of Rs.5.00 lakhs, has already been deposited in the shape of FDR by

- 2 - petitioner No.2, in the name of Sahildeep Singh, aged 18 years, vide Fixed Deposit Receipt A/c No. 283213001890, of ICICI Bank. Copy of the FDR produced by counsel for the petitioners in Court today, is taken on record, subject to all just exceptions. Office to tag the same at appropriate place.

It is noticed that FDR is for a period of six months only. The said FDR would be revalidated from time to time up-till the son of petitioner No.1 attained the age of 21 years.

Let a copy of this order be forwarded to the Branch Manager, ICICI Bank, Dashmesh Nagar, Kotakpura Road, Sri Muktsar Sahib, for necessary compliance.

Learned counsel further submits that petitioners have solemnized marriage on 20.12.2024, as per Sikh Rites and Rituals, against the wishes of their family members. It has been submitted that the private respondent is threatening to interfere in the matrimonial life of the petitioners. Hence, the petitioners are seeking protection in that regard and have approached this Court by way of filing the instant petition. They have also submitted representation dated 20.12.2024 (Annexure P-6), to respondent No.2 - Commissioner of Police, Amritsar, wherein, they have expressed their apprehension.

In view of the above, the present petition is disposed of with a direction to respondent No.2 - Commissioner of Police, Amritsar, to look into the representation dated 20.12.2024 (Annexure P-6), qua threat perception, and if there is any substance in it, take necessary steps, in accordance with law, to ensure that the lives and liberty of the petitioners are

- 3 - not jeopardized at the hands of the private respondent(s). 8.

However, this direction will not validate the marriage said to have taken place between the parties and will have no effect on any civil or criminal action, which could be initiated in the matter in accordance with law.
