Versus

State of Punjab and others .....Respondents CORAM: HON'BLE MRS. JUSTICE MANJARI NEHRU KAUL

Present:

Mr. Devinder Singh Nigha, Advocate for the petitioner.

MANJARI NEHRU KAUL , J. (ORAL) Prayer in the instant petition filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India is for issuance of directions to respondents No.2 and 3, to protect the life and liberty of the petitioner, who apprehend threat to their life at the hands of private respondents No.4 and 5, who are stated to be family members of the petitioner. 2.

Learned counsel for the petitioner, inter alia, contends that the petitioner, who is 20 year old girl, is being pressurized by her parents i.e. private respondents into solemnizing marriage against her wishes with a person, who is much older than her. Learned counsel submits that despite a representation having been given to the official respondents to come to her rescue, no steps have been taken by the official respondents and hence, she was now forced to move in with her friends. Learned counsel submits that the petitioner would be satisfied if directions are issued to respondent No.2-Senior Superintendent of Police, S.A.S. Nagar, to look into her representation (Annexure P-3) and take appropriate steps at the earliest.
