***** GURVINDER SINGH GILL, J . (Oral) There is no representaion on behalf of the petitioners. The instant petition has been filed by petitioner No.1-Manisha aged 21 years and petitioner No.2-Ashwani Kumar aged 27 years, seeking issuance of directions to the official respondents to protect their life and liberty as they apprehend threat to the same at the hands of the private respondents, having solemnized marriage on 12.1.2023 against their wishes. Notice of motion.

At this stage, Mr. Shashank Bhandari, Addl. PP, U.T. Chandigarh has put in appearance on behalf of respondents No.1 to 3 and has informed that upon receipt of an advance copy of the petition, the mother of petitioner No.2 had been contacted, who feigned ignorance about marriage of her son and that she in any case, does not have any objection in case her son has solemnized marriage with a girl of his choice. - 2 - CRWP-525-2023 (O&M) learned counsel has submitted that respondents No.4 to 6 i.e. the parents and brother of petitioner No.1 could not be contacted. Without commenting as regards the veracity of the averments made in the petition and also as regards the validity of alleged marriage of the petitioners, the petition is disposed of with a direction to respondent No.2-Senior Superintendent of Police, U.T. Chandigarh, to look into the matter and to dispose off the representation dated 13.1.2023 (Annexure P-4) in accordance with law. In case, it is found that there is a genuine threat to the lives and liberty of the petitioners, then necessary steps warranted under law be taken thereupon at the earliest so as to ensure that no harm is caused to the petitioners.

A copy of this order alongwith copy of the representation dated 13.1.2023 (Annexure P-4) be sent to respondent No.2-Senior Superintendent of Police, U.T. Chandigarh so as to enable him to do the needful expeditiously.

It is, however, clarified that the aforesaid order shall not be taken to be any expression as regards the validity of marriage of the petitioners and shall not confer any immunity upon the petitioners, in case it is found that they have committed any wrong.
