Present criminal writ petition under Article 226/227 of the Constitution of India has been filed by the petitioners praying for issuance of directions to respondent No.2 to decide the representation dated 17.01.2024 moved at the instance of petitioners apprehending threat to their life and liberty.

On 30.01.2024, this Court passed the following order:- "The petitioners, by way of present petition filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India, seeks issuance of directions to respondent No. 2 for protection of their life and liberty at the hands of private respondent Nos. 4 to 7. The petitioners are stated to be living in Live-inRelationship. Learned counsel for the petitioners, on instructions, submits that petitioner No. 2 (Pardeep Singh) volunteers to deposit a sum of Rs. 1 lakh in the name of petitioner No. 1 (Pardeep Kaur) in the shape of FDR (with maturity period of three years) within a period of one week from today, the interest of which would be disbursed to petitioner No. 1 only.

It is made clear that the above arrangement shall not be treated as an approval of the relationship of the petitioners, besides granting them any immunity from the process of law." 3.

Today, no one has chosen to appear on behalf of the petitioner.

The present petition is thus disposed of with a direction to respondent No.2-Senior Superintendent of Police, Ludhiana (Rural) to look into the representation dated 17.01.2024 (Annexure P-4) and in case he finds any threat perception to the petitioners, appropriate steps be taken to protect their life and liberty.

However, it is made clear that this order may not be construed as expression of an opinion on legality and validity of the marriage of the petitioners.

In case any criminal case is pending against petitioner No.2, this order shall not be any hindrance for the Investigating agency to proceed according to law.
