**** MANJARI NEHRU KAUL, J. (Oral) Prayer in the instant petition filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India, is for issuance of directions to respondents No.2 and 3, to provide protection of life and liberty to the petitioners at the hands of respondents No.4 to 8.

The brief facts of the case as pleaded in the petition, succinctly are that family of petitioner No.1 were averse to her relationship with petitioner No.2 and they were pressurizing her to marry some boy against her wishes even though she was not of marriageable age. As a result of which, the petitioners ran away and have now decided to be in a live-in relationship. The private respondents have thereafter been threatening the petitioners with dire consequences.

In the circumstances, petitioners approached respondent No.2 i.e. Sr. Superintendent of Police, District Amritsar Rural, vide representation dated 07.02.2021 (Annexure P-5), seeking protection of their life and liberty, but in vain.

In view of the above, the present petition is disposed off with a direction to respondent No.2 - Sr. Superintendent of Police, District Amritsar, to look into the representation dated 07th February, 2021 (Annexure P-5) qua the alleged threat perception, and take necessary steps, if any required, in accordance with law, to ensure that the life and liberty of the petitioners is not jeopardized at the hands of the private respondents. However, it is clarified that this order will have no effect on any civil or criminal action, which could be initiated in the matter, nor it would be taken to be a stamp of this Court qua the legitimacy or otherwise of the relationship between the petitioners.
