The prayer in the present petition under Articles 226/227 of the Constitution of India is for issuance of a writ in the nature of mandamus directing the respondents to appoint the petitioner to the post of Computer (Statistics) on compassionate grounds as per the instructions dated 21.11.2002 (Annexure P-36).

Learned counsel for the petitioner would contend that the petitioner had applied for the post of Computer (Statistics) on compassionate ground vide application dated 31.08.2018 (Annexure P-8) and since then the matter is under consideration despite the fact that the petitioner has been found to be eligible on all counts. The learned counsel, by referring to letter dated 12.01.2021 (Annexure P-35), would further contend that the matter was yet again considered by the office of respondent No.3 (Chief Agriculture Officer, Bathinda) who, vide Office Letter No.10280 dated 14.12.2020, informed the respondent No.2 (The Director, Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare) that the petitioner is fully eligible for appointment to a Group-C post on compassionate ground and further action in the matter should be taken at his own level. CWP No.3312 of 2021 -2Learned counsel for the petitioner further contends that at this stage he would be satisfied if a direction is issued to the respondents to consider the case of the petitioner for compassionate appointment in a timebound manner. Notice of motion.

On the asking of the Court, Ms. Kanica Sachdeva, AAG, Punjab has joined the session through video conferencing and accepts notice on behalf of all the respondents.

In view of the limited prayer made by learned counsel for the petitioner and considering the fact that the matter for appointment of the petitioner on compassionate ground has been under consideration since 31.08.2018 and no decision has been taken till date, the present petition is disposed off with a direction to the respondents to consider the matter in accordance with law and take a decision on the same expeditiously, preferably, within a period of three months from the date of receipt of a certified copy of this order.
