The present petition has been filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India for directing official respondents No.2 and 3 to take action on the representation dated 27.01.2025 (Annexure P-5) filed by the petitioners and to protect their life and liberty at the hands of respondent No.4.

Learned counsel for the petitioners contends that the marriage of petitioner No.1 was solemnized with one Manohar Singh on 30.11.1996, and they had a daughter. Thereafter, due to an accident Manohar Singh passed away in the year 2019. Similarly, marriage of petitioner No.2 was solemnized with Jasvir Kaur on 12.12.1996, and they had two children. The wife of petitioner No.2 namely Jasvir Kaur also passed away on 15.07.2015. Learned counsel for the petitioners submits that both the consenting adults met each other and decided to live together. They informed their families of their decision, but faced strong objections due to their families' orthodox views and concerns about social reputation and traditional marriage customs. CRWP-955-2025 to explain that they are well-settled, mature individuals with future goals, the families continued to oppose their live-in relationship and the said relationship is not acceptable to respondent No.4 and she is threatening the petitioners with dire consequences. The petitioners apprehend danger to their life and liberty from respondent No.4 and in this regard, submitted a representation dated 27.01.2025 (Annexure P-5) to respondent No.2 but no action has been taken so far. 3.

Notice of motion to the official respondents only. 4.

Mr. Sandeep Godara, DAG, Punjab, who is present in Court, accepts notice for the official respondents. Learned counsel for the petitioners is directed to supply a copy of complete paper book to learned State counsel during course of the day. 5.

Without commenting on the validity of their relationship and entering upon an exercise to evaluate the evidentiary value of the documents placed on the file, I dispose of this petition with direction to respondent No.2 to decide the representation of the petitioners (Annexure P-5) within a period of one week from the date of receipt of a copy of this order and grant them protection, if there is any threat to their life and liberty in accordance with law. 6.

It is made clear that this order shall not be taken to protect the petitioners from legal action for violation of law, if any committed by them.
