IN THE HIGH COURT OF PUNJAB & HARYANA

AT CHANDIGARH CRWP-975-2025 Date of decision: January 30th, 2025 Taras Pal Singh and others .....Petitioners

Versus

State of Punjab and others .....Respondents

CORAM:

HON'BLE MRS. JUSTICE MANJARI NEHRU KAUL

Present:

Mr. Ankush Sharma, Advocate for the petitioners.

MANJARI NEHRU KAUL, J.

The petitioners seek a directions to the respondents restraining them from allegedly harassing them in connection with Gulab Singh and Bali Singh, who are the sons of petitioner No. 1 and the husbands of petitioner Nos.2 and 3 respectively. 2.

Learned counsel for the petitioners contends that despite the petitioners having disowned Gulab Singh and Bali Singh in 2023, police officials visited their residence on 07.01.2025, enquiring about their whereabouts and allegedly threatening them with false implication in criminal cases.

3.

Upon a specific query by this Court, learned counsel has conceded that criminal cases are indeed registered against Gulab Singh and Bali Singh, though he is unaware of the particulars of those cases. 4.

I have heard learned counsel for the petitioners and perused the relevant material on record.

5.

Admittedly, criminal cases have been registered against Gulab Singh and Bali Singh, and the police in course of investigation, PUNEET SACHDEVA 2025.02.04 10:23 I attest to the accuracy and integrity of this document Chandigarh

CRWP-975-2025 -2have enquired about their whereabouts from their immediate family members, including the petitioners. The relief sought in this petition is, in effect, and attempt to obstruct the ongoing investigation, which is a statutory function of the investigating agency. 6.

This Court cannot interfere in such matters, as doing so would be beyond its jurisdiction.

7.

Moreover, the mere fact that the petitioners have disowned Gulab Singh and Bali Singh does not preclude the police from seeking information about them from their immediate family members. Such enquiries, made in furtherance of an investigation, cannot be construed as harassment.

8.

In view of the above, the petition is devoid of merit and is accordingly dismissed. No ground is made out for issuance of directions as prayed for.
