**** MANJARI NEHRU KAUL, J. (Oral) Prayer in the instant petition filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India, is for issuance of directions to respondents No.1 to 3, to provide protection of life and liberty to the petitioners at the hands of respondents No.4 and 5.

It has been pleaded and submitted that respondent No.5 (husband of petitioner No.1) had been subjecting her to mental and physical harassment, as a result of which, she moved out along with her two children and started living with petitioner No.2. It has been submitted that ever since then the private respondents have been threatening the petitioners with dire consequences. The petitioners have approached respondent No.2 i.e. Superintendent of Police, District Kaithal, vide representation dated 08.02.2021 (Annexure P-3), seeking protection of their life and liberty, but in vain.

Keeping in view the facts and circumstances of the case, the present petition is disposed off with a direction to respondent No.2 - Superintendent of Police, District Kaithal, to look into the representation dated 08th February, 2021 (Annexure P-3) qua the alleged threat perception, and take necessary steps, if any required, in accordance with law, to ensure that the life and liberty of the petitioners is not jeopardized at the hands of the private respondents. However, it is clarified that this order will have no effect on any civil or criminal action, which could be initiated in the matter, nor would it be taken to be a stamp of this Court qua the legitimacy or otherwise of the relationship between the petitioners.
