**** MANJARI NEHRU KAUL, J. (Oral) Prayer in the instant petition filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India, is for issuance of directions to respondents No.2 and 3, to provide protection of life and liberty to the petitioners at the hands of respondents No.4 to 18.

The brief facts of the case as pleaded in the petition, succinctly are that family members of both the petitioners were averse to their relationship, as a result of which, the petitioners ran away and have now decided to be in a live-in relationship. The private respondents have thereafter been threatening the petitioners with dire consequences.

In the circumstances, petitioners approached respondents No.2 & 3 i.e. Sr. Superintendent of Police, Jalandhar and SHO, P.S. Nangal Shama, Jalandhar, vide representation dated 11th February, 2021 (Annexure P-3), seeking protection of their life and liberty, but in vain. 4.

Notice of motion was issued in this case and in response thereto, learned State counsel has put in appearance and submits that in case there is JAWALA RAM 2021.02.24 15:28 I attest to the accuracy and authenticity of this document Chandigarh danger to the life and liberty of the petitioners, appropriate action would be

In view of the above, the present petition is disposed off with a direction to respondent No.2 - Sr. Superintendent of Police, District Jalandhar, to look into the representation dated 11th February, 2021 (Annexure P-3) qua the alleged threat perception, and take necessary steps, if any required, in accordance with law, to ensure that the life and liberty of the petitioners is not jeopardized at the hands of the private respondents. However, it is clarified that this order will have no effect on any civil or criminal action, which could be initiated in the matter, nor would it be taken to be a stamp of this Court qua the legitimacy or otherwise of the relationship between the petitioners.
