(Oral) The petition has been filed seeking a writ of mandamus directing the respondents to award the interest at the rate of eighteen per cent on the amount of Death-cum-Retirement Gratuity worth ₹1,42,428 with effect from 28.02.1999 to 18.05.2000 to the petitioner.

Learned State counsel contends that the Department made an effort to contact the petitioner as the record of the case was not traceable in the Department. It came to their notice that the petitioner is no more and his son, Mahipal, does not want to pursue the matter. He has given an affidavit also to that effect.
