*** ARUN MONGA, J. (ORAL) Petition was filed in the year 1996, for issuance of a writ in the nature of mandamus inter alia directing the respondents to promote the petitioner to the post of Assistant Excise and Taxation Officer from the date when his juniors have been promoted.

Petition was admitted on 17.12.1997 and it was ordered to be heard on 16.02.1998 high up in the list.

When called out for hearing, there is no representation on behalf of the petitioner. It seems that by sheer effluxion of time and pendency of the writ petition for more than 25 years before this Court, either it has been rendered infructuous or even otherwise the petitioner seems to have lost interest in pursuing the same as petitioner must have been retired by now.

Be that as it may, writ petition is disposed of with liberty to the petitioner to file an appropriate application in case, any cause of action still survives.
