HARINDER SINGH SIDHU, J Prayer is for grant of regular bail in Case FIR No.184 dated 09.04.2008 under Section 22 of NDPS Act registered at P.S. Sadar, Amritsar.
Allegations in the FIR are that the petitioner was found in conscious possession of 200 grams of intoxicant powder. He was released on bail on 10.05.2008. Thereafter, the petitioner regularly appeared before the learned trial Court. However, on account of his failure to appear before the trial Court on one of the dates, the petitioner was declared as proclaimed offender on 08.11.2011. He was arrested on 13.11.2021 and since then he is in custody.
Learned counsel for the petitioner submits that the absence of the petitioner was not intentional and that he has been in custody for about five months.

CRM-M-8975 of 2022 #2# Without commenting anything on the merits of the case and also bearing in mind the fact that the trial is not likely to conclude in near future, in my opinion, no useful purpose will be served by detaining the petitioner behind bars any further. The petition, as such, is accepted. The petitioner Mandeep Sharma @ Sonu is ordered to be released on bail on his furnishing bail bonds/surety bonds to the satisfaction of learned trial Court/Chief Judicial Magistrate/Duty Magistrate concerned. This present petition stands accepted accordingly.
