The present petition has been filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India for issuance of a writ in the nature of mandamus directing official respondents to protect the life and liberty of petitioners at the hands of respondents No.4 to 7.

There was a request made by the learned counsel for the petitioners for hearing the case through video conferencing but no one has put in appearance.

A perusal of the record of the case indicates that petitioners have married against the wishes of respondents No.4 to 7 and they claim themselves to be major and seek protection to their life and liberty. They apprehend danger from respondents No.4 to 7. They have placed on record marriage certificate (Annexure P-5) to substantiate their claim. The petitioners have also submitted a representation dated 18.02.2024 (Annexure P-7) to respondent No.2 but no action has been taken so far.

Ms. Geeta Sharma, DAG, Haryana, who is present in Court, accepts notice for the official respondents. Counsel for the petitioners is directed to supply a copy of complete paper book to the counsel appearing for the State during the course of the day.

Without commenting on the validity of the marriage allegedly performed by the petitioners and entering upon an exercise to evaluate the evidentiary value of the documents placed on the file, I dispose of this petition with direction to respondent No.2 to decide the representation of the petitioners (Annexure P-7) within a period of one week from the date of receipt of a certified copy of this order and grant them protection, if there is any threat to their life and liberty. It is made clear that this order shall not be taken to protect the petitioners from legal action for violation of law, if any committed by them.
