This is a writ petition under Article 226/227 of the Constitution of India for the issuance of a writ in the nature of Certiorari for quashing the impugned order dated 31.12.1996 (Annexure P-5) and further for issuance of a writ of Mandamus directing the respondents not to revert the petitioners.

Learned counsel for the State has pointed out that as per the status report dated 30.01.2023, petitioner Nos. 7, 8 and 9 have been posted as Sub Inspectors, Executive Clerical Cadre (English Branch); petitioner Nos. 4 and 6 have already expired and petitioner Nos. 1, 3, 5 and 10 have retired. It is submitted that even petitioner No.2 has subsequent to the filing of the said status report, retired on 31.08.2023 and prior to that was posted as Sub-Inspector Executive Clerical Cadre (English Branch). No one has appeared on behalf of the petitioners to rebut the said argument.

In view of the above, the present petition is disposed of as having been rendered infructuous and liberty is granted to the petitioners to revive the present petition in case anything survives. Pending applications, if any, also stand disposed off.
