The present petition has been filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India for issuance of a writ in the nature of mandamus directing official respondents No.2 and 3 to protect the life and liberty of petitioners at the hands of respondents No.4 to 7.

Learned counsel for the petitioners submits that both the petitioners are major and they are living in a live in relationship. It is further contended that parents of petitioner No.1 are against the said relationship of petitioners and they are harassing them. In this regard, they have also submitted a representation dated 19.02.2024 (Annexure P-3) to the Senior Superintendent of Police, Amritsar, Punjab but no action has been taken so far. 3.

Notice of motion to the official respondents only. 4.

Without commenting on the validity of relationship of petitioners and entering upon an exercise to evaluate the evidentiary value of the documents placed on the file, I dispose of this petition with direction to respondent No.2 to decide the representation of the petitioners (Annexure P-3) within a period of one week from the date of receipt of a certified copy of this order and grant them protection, if there is any threat to their life and liberty. It is made clear that this order shall not be taken to protect the petitioners from legal action for violation of law, if any committed by them.
