(Oral) The petitioners have approached this Court seeking issuance of a direction to official respondents to protect their lives and liberty as they apprehend threat to the same at the hands of respondent Nos.4 to 8 who are wife, brothers-in-law and father-in-law of petitioner No.2. It has been submitted that a divorce petition between petitioner No.2 and respondent No.4 is already pending and that after getting divorce petitioner No.2 intends to marry petitioner No.1 who is already 4 months pregnant. It has been submitted that somehow respondents No.4 to 8 do not approve of relationship of the petitioners who are presently residing together and have been extending threats to cause harm to them constraining the petitioners to approach this Court.

- 2 - CRWP-2395-2021 (O&M) Having heard learned counsel for the petitioners and while refraining from making any expression as regards the averments made in the petition or as regards the relationship of the petitioners, the petition is disposed of with a direction to respondent No.2-Superintendent of Police, Bathinda, District Bathinda, to look into the matter and to dispose of representation dated 1.3.2021 (Annexure P-3) in accordance with law. In case, it is found that there is a genuine threat to the lives and liberty of the petitioners, then necessary steps warranted under law be taken thereupon at the earliest so as to ensure that no harm is caused to the petitioners. A copy of this order alongwith copy of the representation dated 1.3.2021 be sent to Superintendent of Police, District Bathinda (respondent No.2), so as to enable him to do the needful expeditiously. It is, however, clarified that the aforesaid order shall not confer any immunity upon the petitioners, in case it is found that they have committed any wrong.
