CRWP No.1755 of 2024 (O&M) Date of Decision:26.02.2024 Jaspal Singh and another ... Petitioners Versus State of Punjab and others ... Respondents CORAM : HON'BLE MR. JUSTICE HARPREET SINGH BRAR
Present:
Ms. Dilpreet Kaur, Advocate for the petitioners.
*** HARPREET SINGH BRAR, J. (ORAL) 1.
The present petition has been filed under Article 226/227 of the Constitution of India for issuance of a writ in the nature of mandamus directing respondent No.2 to protect the life and liberty of petitioners at the hands of respondents No.4 to 6 by providing them adequate security/police protection. 2.
Learned counsel for the petitioners contends that both petitioners are major and they wish to marry each other. However, respondents No.4 to 6 want to solemnize marriage of petitioner No.2 with someone else and when she refused to do so, she was being continuously pressurized to get married with the boy of their choice. On 11.02.2024, petitioner No.2 ran away from her home and started living with petitioner No.1 in a live in relationship. It is further contended that respondents No.4 to 6 are threatening petitioners with dire consequences. In this regard, they have also submitted a representation dated 12.02.2024 (Annexure P-3) to respondent No.2 but no action has been taken so far.
