(Oral) The instant petition has been filed for issuance of direction to respondents No. 2 and 3 to protect the life and liberty of the petitioners from the hands of private respondents No. 4 to 8. The brief facts of the case as pleaded in the petition, succinctly are that family members of petitioner No.1 were averse to her relationship with petitioner No.2, as a result of which, the petitioners ran away and decided to reside together in live-in relationship. The private respondents have thereafter been threatening the petitioners with dire consequences. In the circumstances, petitioners approached respondents No.2 i.e. Commissioner of Police, Amritsar, vide representation dated 09.03.2021 2021 (Annexure P-3), seeking protection of their life and liberty, but in vain. In view of the above, the present petition is disposed of with a direction to respondent No.2-Commissioner of Police, Amritsar, to look into the representation dated 09.03.2021 (Annexure P3) submitted by the petitioners qua threat perception, if any, and take necessary steps, if any required, in accordance with law, to ensure that the life and liberty of the petitioners is not jeopardized at the hands of the private respondents. However, it is clarified that this order will have no effect on any civil or criminal action, which could be initiated in the matter, nor would it be taken to be a stamp of this Court qua the legitimacy or otherwise of the relationship between the petitioners.
