(Oral) The instant Writ Petition has been filed under Articles 226/227 of the Constitution of India inter alia seeking issuance of a writ in the nature of Mandamus for directing respondent No.2 to re-issue passport of the petitioner, which was applied by the petitioner on 20.01.2025 (Annexure P-1).

Mr. Ish Karan Singh Chhabra, Advocate, appears on behalf of respondents No.1 and 2, pursuant to the advance copy of petition having been sent to the Union of India. He submits that vide letter dated 05.02.2025 (Annexure P-3), certain clarifications were sought from the petitioner, however the same has not been responded to by the petitioner till date. 3.

On the other hand, learned counsel appearing for the petitioner submits that in pursuance of letter dated 05.02.2025 (Annexure P-3), the petitioner had already appeared before the Regional Passport Officer, Jalandhar and that the petitioner would again appear before the Regional HIMANI GUPTA 2025.03.04 15:56 I attest to the accuracy and authenticity of this document/judgment High Court, Chandigarh

CWP-5434-2025 (O&M) -2Passport Officer, Jalandhar along with his written explanation to the aforesaid letter dated 05.02.2025 (Annexure P-3). He prays that the petitioner may be permitted to withdraw the instant writ petition at this stage, however, he submits that time bound directions be issued to the concerned Officer/Authority for consideration of the application (Annexure P-1), submitted by the petitioner, seeking issuance of the passport.

Learned counsel for respondents No.1 and 2 submits that in case, the petitioner appears before the Regional Passport Officer, Jalandhar and/or renders his explanation in pursuance of letter dated 05.02.2025 (Annexure P-3), the application seeking issuance of the passport, submitted by the petitioner, would be processed and final decision thereon shall be taken within a period of four weeks from today. 5.

Keeping in view the aforesaid submissions made by the respective parties, the present petition is dismissed as withdrawn at this stage. In case, the petitioner appears before the Regional Passport Officer, Jalandhar on any working day and/or submits his written explanation in pursuance of letter dated 05.02.2025 (Annexure P-3), the passport authorities shall take a final decision on the application (Annexure P-1) seeking issuance of passport, submitted by the petitioner, within a period of four weeks from the date such explanation is rendered by the petitioner. 6.
