This is a petition that has been filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India for issuance of a writ in the nature of mandamus, directing the official respondents to step up the pay of the petitioners at par with their juniors-private respondents, in view of the speaking order dated 17.09.2020 passed by the respondent-department in pursuance to order dated 19.06.2020 passed by this High Court in CWP No.8290 of 2020 titled as Sukhwinder Singh and others Vs. State of Punjab and others. In this regard, a legal notice dated 15.02.2022 (Annexure P-8) has been given by the petitioners to the official respondents but till date no decision has been taken thereon.

Mr. Pawan Sharda, Sr. DAG, Punjab, who is present through the medium of video conferencing, accepts notice for the official respondents and submits that the official respondents will look into the matter and will take a decision on the legal notice of the petitioners. Without commenting on merits of the case, I dispose of the instant petition by directing the official respondents to take a decision on the legal notice dated 15.02.2022 (Annexure P-8) of the petitioners in accordance with law within a period of six months from the date of receipt of certified copy of this order and convey the decision to the petitioners, failing which the officer responsible for the lapse would be liable to deposit costs of Rs.20,000/- from his personal pocket with the Punjab and Haryana High Court Advocates Welfare Fund.
