The present petition has been filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India for issuance of writ, order or direction to the official respondents to protect the life and liberty of the petitioners at the hands of private respondents No. 5 to 15.

Short reply by way of an affidavit of Mr. Raj Kumar, PPS, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Sub-Division, Ajnala, Amritsar (Rural) has been filed by learned State counsel on behalf of respondents No. 1 to 4/State in Court today, which is taken on record. Copy thereof has been handed over to the learned counsel for the petitioner. 3.

Learned counsel for the petitioner reiterates that there is imminent threat to the life and liberty of the petitioners and also submits that, in fact, the reply is only to cover up the misdeeds of the officials and the reason for the same is that one of the relatives of petitioner No. 1 is PARUL 2024.04.09 11:14 I attest to the accuracy and authenticity of this document working in the Police Department.

In light of the above, the present petition stands disposed of with a direction to respondent No. 2-Senior Superintendent of Police, Amritsar Rural, to look into the matter in accordance with law and ensure that the life and liberty of the petitioners is protected. 5.

It is made clear that filing or pendency of this petition or any order/direction passed in this petition shall not be an alibi or defence to the petitioners, in case, they are found involved in any illegal activity and the respondent-Authorities shall take appropriate action, in accordance with law.
