(Oral) This petition has been filed under Section 482 Cr.PC for issuance of directions to respondent No.2 to protect the life and liberty of the petitioners which is alleged to be in danger at the hands of respondent nos. 3 to 14 on account of the parties living together against their wishes. They fear for their lives.

Learned counsel for the petitioners contends that both the petitioners are major and living together at their free will. He further submits that the petitioners have also moved a representation (Annex P-1) before the Superintendent of Police, Ambala for the protection of their life and liberty.

The Supreme Court in Fiaz Ahmed Ahanger & ors. vs. State of J&K., 2009(3) RCR (Civil) 217 held as follows: "This is a free, democratic and secular country. Once a girl is above 18 years of age, it is her choice with whom to live with and whom to marry with, as held by this Court in Lata Singh vs. State of U.P., 2006(3) RCR(Crl.) 870: 2006(2) Apex Criminal 670: 2006(5) SCC 475. CRM-M No.21467 of 2017 (O&M) -2decision, if the parents of the girl do not approve of the intercaste or inter-religion marriage of a major girl, the maximum they can do is that they can cut off social relations with the daughter but they cannot give threats or commit or instigate acts of violence and cannot harass the person, as such acts would be unlawful."

Having regard to the aforesaid, present petition is disposed of with a direction to the Superintendent of Police - respondent No.2 to look into the representation (Annex P-1) and take necessary steps in accordance with law, if the situation so warrants, and no harm comes to them at the hands of the private respondents.
