The present petition has been filed in shape of Public Interest Litigation primarily raising the public cause that water pipeline connecting Sector 26 to Manimajra, Chandigarh was temporarily shifted on the narrow bridge of Sukhna choe for repairs but the same has not been restored to its original position as yet.

An affidavit dated 02.07.2024 had been filed by Shri Harjit Singh, Superintending Engineer, Public Health Circle, Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh that the work of shifting of the aforesaid water pipeline shall be completed within a period of one month.

Learned counsel for Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh informs that the said work of shifting the pipeline has not yet been completed despite lapse of more than four months.

It is unfortunate to note that despite the authorities of the Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh having stated on oath that the work shall be completed within a month, the same continues to be incomplete despite lapse of more than six months.

Mr. Ghai appearing for Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh on instructions undertakes that the aforesaid work shall be completed within a period of two months.

In view of the above undertaking given by Mr. Ghai on instructions on behalf of Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh, this petition stands disposed of with a direction that completion report of restoration of pipeline at its original place be filed in the Court latest by 31.03.2025, failing which this Court shall hold the Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh personally liable for contempt, for which Registry of this Court is directed that in case of non-filing of report or compliance remaining incomplete by the said date, this matter be listed as PUD before this Bench for issuance of contempt notice against Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh.

Disposed of.
