RAMENDRA JAIN, J. (ORAL) Prayer in the instant petition under Section 439 Cr.P.C. has been made for grant of regular bail to petitioner - Gurpreet Singh @ Gopi - in a case arising from FIR No.79 dated 19.08.2015 under Section 22 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act registered at Police Station Valtoha, District Tarn Taran.

Learned counsel for the petitioner contends that the petitioner is in custody since 22.10.2016. No prosecution witness has been examined as yet, though the charge was framed around one year back against the petitioner. The conclusion of trial will take a long time. No useful purpose would be served by detaining the petitioner in jail. No other case under the NDPS Act or otherwise is pending against the petitioner. On the other hand, learned State counsel vehemently opposed prayer for grant of regular bail.
