MANJARI NEHRU KAUL, J. (Oral) The instant petition has been filed for issuance of direction to respondents No. 2 and 3 to protect the life and liberty of the petitioners from the hands of private respondents No. 4 and 5. It is contended that the petitioners are major and have solemnized their marriage on 13.04.2021 against the wishes of the private respondents who have been threatening them with dire consequences. Learned counsel submits that a representation dated 13.04.2021 (Annexure P5) was made to the Senior Superintendent of Police, Fazilka (respondent No.2) with respect to the threats being extended to the petitioners. However, the official respondents have failed to come to their rescue and take any appropriate action. The learned counsel has sent a postal receipt of the representation sent to the SSP, Fazilka. On the asking of the Court, Mr. Luvinder Sofat, AAG, Punjab, who is appearing through video conferencing, accepts notice on behalf of the State.

In view of the above, the present petition is disposed of with a direction to respondent No.2-Superintendent of Police, Fazilka, to look into the representation dated 13.04.2021 (Annexure P5) submitted by the petitioners qua threat perception, if any, and take necessary steps, if any required, in accordance with law, to ensure that the life and liberty of the petitioners is not jeopardized at the hands of the private respondents. However, this direction will not validate the marriage said to have taken place between the parties and will have no effect on any civil or criminal action, which could be initiated in the matter in accordance with law.
