(Oral) The petitioners seek issuance of a direction to the official respondents to protect their lives and liberty as they apprehend threat to the same at the hands of private respondents, having married against the wishes of their families.

Notice of motion.

At this stage, Ms. Swati Batra, DAG, Punjab, has put in appearance on behalf of respondent-State and Mr. Sarvesh Kumar Gupta, has put in appearance on behalf of respondents No.4 and 5 and filed power of attorney on behalf of respondents No.4 and 5. The same is taken on record.

2023:PHHC:043583 CRWP-2895-2023 (O&M) - 2 - Learned counsel appearing on behalf of respondents No.4 and 5 has asserted that as a matter of fact, petitioner No.2-Parminder Singh is already married and that one child was also born out of the said wedlock. He has however, assured that respondents No.4 and 5 shall not cause any harm to the petitioners and are open for amicable settlement. At this stage, learned counsel for the petitioners also submitted that his clients are also open to discuss the possibility of any amicable settlement.

In view of the aforestated position, the instant petition is disposed of with a direction to the petitioners as well as to respondents No.4 and 5 to appear before Secretary, DLSA, SBS Nagar, Nawa Shehar, on 28.3.2023 at 10 am.

The Secretary, DLSA, SBS Nagar, Nawa Shehar, shall refer the parties to some seasoned Mediator so as to probe the possibility of amicable settlement, since the matter pertains to some kind of matrimonial dispute. The petition stands disposed of accordingly.

However, if at a later stage, the petitioners have any kind of apprehension as regards their security, it shall be open to them to approach this Court again.
