On asking of the Court, Ms. Amanat Chahal, Assistant Advocate General, Punjab, present in the Court accepts notice on behalf of the respondents-State.

Petitioner no.1-Simran claims to be of 18 years of age whereas petitioner no.2- Ajay Kumar claims to be more than 18 years of age. They are stated to be in love and want to solemnize marriage to the extreme displeasure of the family of girl i.e. respondents 4 to 7 who are residents of H.No.430 Street No.1, Ambedkar Nagar, Model Town, Ludhiana. They apprehend threat to their life and liberty. It is submitted that a representation dated 15.06.2018 (Annexure P-3) was given to the Commissioner of Police, Ludhiana for redressal of their grievance.

CRM-M No.26356 of 2018 {2} After hearing the learned counsel for the petitioners and keeping in view the directions issued by the Hon'ble Supreme Court in the case of Lata Singh v. State of U.P. And another, JT 2006(6) SC 173, the present petition is disposed of with a direction to petitioners to present themselves before the Commissioner of Police, Ludhiana, who shall take appropriate action, if so warranted in accordance with law. This order shall not be construed to be conferring the legitimacy or authenticity to the factum of marriage having been performed as well as the age, as the Court is clearly deprived of any means to determine the aforesaid facts.
